Programme 70p

Royal Burgh of Haddington and

District Community Council

Welcome to the 40th Haddington Festival.

Once again we are at the time of year when our Community comes together to enjoy the talents of many of our local and wider community. Our aim is to keep on building the Festival with new events as well as some of the old, popular and well established ones. We hope there is something for everyone to enjoy. I would like to thank all  the business community, organisations and sponsors for their continued support and generosity. Without that support the Festival would not be the success it is.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Police and East Lothian Council for their guidance and help with all the road events and conveying equipment to the different venues. Anyone wishing to take part in next year’s festival or arrange an event in it, or who would like further information on the 2008 Festival please get in touch with me (01620-82-4816). I will be glad to hear from you. Lastly I would like to thank the general public who turn out in all kinds of weather to join in the festivities and who show what our community spirit is all about. It just remains for me to say  to everyone to have fun and be happy!  Be proud of Haddington.

Please Note: Next year we celebrate 40 years of Haddington Festival (1968-2008)

7.30 pm                    TOWN HOUSE:  QUERN:

The Quern was formed in 1984 with the twin objectives of promoting the music and culture of Scotland in a lively, imaginative way and helping organisations in their fund-raising efforts.

Their performances are mainly a blend of Scottish story, song, music and poetry, but they do also incorporate music and  songs of other lands. They have performed widely in Scotland and also taken part in events in Europe, Australia, Canada, and Africa.

Their performance at the Haddington Festival this year is based on The Auld Alliance between Scotland and France.  This presentation was given in 2006 in our twin town of Aubigny and was very much enjoyed there.

We hope you enjoy our festival and we hope that the weather will stay kind to us.

FUTURE FESTIVALS

If you have enjoyed our festival and would like to take part in next year’s festival please do not hesitate to get in touch with me, Jan Wilson 4 Sidegate Lane, Haddington, (tele. No 01620824816, the sooner, the better. Please Note: Next year we celebrate 40 years of Haddington Festival. To make it special please put your thinking caps on and if you can organise, take part in or have any ideas that could be included in our special celebrations please get in touch with me or any of our community councillors. You can find the names and addresses in the Haddington Community Council Handbook.

Please understand that, although the festival is always at the end of May, time is needed to enter data onto the programme. It has to be checked, fine tuned and then sent to the printers, so that it can be ready in time for selling. Therefore, it is essential that all events must be sent in to me by 5th April. It is regrettable that any event coming in after that date will not be included in the programme.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

The Festival Committee would like to thank the following patrons for so readily and willingly sponsoring and organising the events in this and previous years' Festivals.  Without their help the Festival would not be as successful as it is.
