Thus ends the six part series, A Hundred Years of Haddington. Although the series is, by necessity, short and subjective, the author has found writing it to be a fulfilling experience and hopes that it has been both enjoyable and useful. History should be much more than a list of dates and descriptions of events deemed to be of national importance and it is hoped that some of the experiences of the ordinary Haddingtonian has been captured in these pages.
Once again, I am indebted to George Angus for his photographs, advice and encouragement while Jean Grant, Jim McDougal and John Wood of D & J Croal are deserving of special mention. Graham Coe and Pat Moncrieff have been unstinting in their support, and others, too numerous to mention, have been a source of information and encouragement.
This series will be enhanced and reproduced in booklet form prior to the millennium and it is hoped that it will go on sale in October 1999 at a price of around three pounds. As previously recorded, no individual will make any money from this venture and any profits have been pledged to Haddington Day Centre for the Elderly.
